Kabe-don (壁ドン)

Kabe-don is a romantic trope seen in various shoujo anime and manga. Kabe means “wall” and don is a Japanese onomatopoeia for the thud of hitting a wall. Usually, this is where a tough (sometimes tsundere) character backs another character against the wall, resulting the latter pounding the wall with their fist with one or both arms. It invokes a cool feeling, making the one being pinned against the wall go all doki-doki like this girl here--

[Ah hah. So there is something on his mind. It isn't very often that the two of them have a heart to heart conversation and on the rare occasion it does come up, Rin's certainly the loudest of the two, but Rin's ready and waits regardless, unafraid and even curious.

He stares back and crosses his arms, his look calm for the time being.]

All right. What for?

[Can be either, but I'm leaning towards her being the person who pins someone else.]

I wanted to--

[Haru takes a step closer, as if that would help steel his resolve, so he wouldn't be tempted to turn away without looking even weirder than he does right now.

He wants to say what he feels, but he just doesn't know how. Even now, he still doesn't have a lot of practice in these matters. Not out of shyness, just out of avoiding anything that could be annoying... it sounds like it would be so simple to do, and Haru can't help but feel frustrated at his continued loss of words.

How could he really show Rin how serious he is about this? He remembers seeing a part of some romantic drama Mrs. Tachibana was watching once-- and while nothing like those interested Haru, he remembered something one guy did...

Taking a quick glance over Rin's shoulder, he checks out the opposite wall.]

[Wanted to--? Rin tilts his head again and his brows furrow a bit in mild annoyance. That only increases when he catches Haru glancing off behind him too and after a moment he looks over his shoulder as well.]

Oi, what the heck are you looking at?

[Nothing but a wall back there from what he can see. Tsk. Haru can be a little too weird sometimes.]

[The wall isn't too far to reach, Haru figures, so it's either now or never. And if he backed out now, all this inner struggle would be for nothing and Rin would just be annoyed. That makes it an easy choice now--

Haru lunges forward, both palms hitting the wall.

The thud resounds around the room much louder than he expected. They're almost exactly face-to-face, but Haru doesn't draw back. Adrenaline rushes through Haru-- even if he doesn't really know where he was going with this, this feel like it's working.

Two centimeters of difference in their height doesn't matter much, Haru thinks, when he keeps his gaze steady and intense.]

[ To which Ryuunosuke starts to respond with an aversion to being spoken to by a stranger, especially one who looked as... unique as Koujaku. Her first instinct was to tell him to buzz off, but then. ]

"Young lady?"

[ Today in, phrases Ryuunosuke's not used to hearing from strangers... ]

[ Behold! The kind of intuition that only notorious womanizers possess! ]

I'm right, aren't I? Your clothing is manly, but you definitely have a delicate feminine air to you.

[ An intuition she knows all too well... ]

Delicate feminine... yer not pullin' my leg, are ya!? [ A beat. ] Th-that's right, though. I'm a woman.

[ At least he isn't an utter sleazeball, unlike those womanizers that Ryuunosuke knows. He is respectful and kind. Just... also really really flirty. ]

Of course you are, which is why I wanted to offer you a special service.

[ He moves smoothly to pin Ryuunosuke to the wall with one arm. Look at him, such a dashing man. Not about to get his ass handed to him at all. ]

[Sure sure, the childhood friends/schoolmates angle works well! I'll toss him out, just poke me if you want anything different!]

Tetsuo had always sort of been a climber. Even before he lost his mother and ran away to join the Hungry Wolves gang, he'd been constantly climbing on things like a monkey. That hadn't changed, since; if anything, he'd just grown more daring. And one of his favorite places to climb was the abandoned stadium ruins in the Old City. It wasn't safe by any stretch, but there was a lot of really interesting climbing to be done, there.

Today, he was chilling there, half-sitting/half-slouching against a broken-off section on concrete, in a relatively easy-to-reach spot. Mostly because he'd brought pizza along for lunch, relaxing and taking in the Old City view.

[ On one hand, he was able to pick up on the fact that she was a woman quickly, and had done a good job of convincing her to listen to what he had to say. ]

[ On the other hand, a guy with a weird offer, pinning her to the wall? It was an awkward angle, but good enough that she could aim a fast punch to his chin. ]

The hell do you think yer doin?!

[He's about to turn and face Haru again--maybe to try and ask the same question while he's at it since Haru seems so keen on being quiet tonight--but his words end up lodged in his throat when suddenly two arms come up on either side of him and with a quiet, surprised gasp Rin steps back and ends up pressed to the opposite wall.

... Uh.

Wide eyed and with hands pulled in towards him, Rin stares back at his friend for a few stunned beats before finally speaking up, the tone of his voice just a bit tense given the circumstances.]

... Haru?

[Haru doesn't blink as he stares into Rin's eyes, hoping to impress how seriously he feels about this.]

Rin.

[Completely disregarding any kind of personal space bubble at the moment, Haru leans in even closer, eyes lidded. His voice is low and quiet as he finally says the words aloud.]

I just... want you here more.

[That's not even the words in Haru's mind. Not completely.

But it's already something that takes a lot of effort for Haru to work up the effort to say. And Haru isn't the kind to work up effort unless he really means it. Sure, they're both fully aware of their conflicting schedules, so it makes Haru's admission pointless as far as changing anything goes...

Maybe Rin will even just think Haru is being weird or won't understand, will just think it's just a simple few words, but at least Haru's said it.]

[... Rin is not sure what's going on and he's not so sure he wants to find out anymore, but with the way things are going and with how close Haru's honing in, he's too stunned to do much more than stare and gape. Ok, maybe he can lean his head back and bump it against the wall, but other than that he has no idea what he's supposed to say or do in this situation!

... And somehow he's even more confused that he was before when Haru decides to give a verbal explanation. Explanation used very lightly here.

He takes a second to stare a little more before darting his eyes left and right then proceeding to stammer a bit over his response, brows furrowed and face slightly red.]

Uh-- O--Okay? I can try to come back next weekend or something, you know.

[But more importantly and irritably,]

... Haru, I'm going to miss the train if you keep standing like this. Wha-- Why do you have to stand so close to me anyway!?

[Though he can do it with less effort than this most of the time, Haru can't help but feel at least a small sense of accomplishment at getting Rin all flustered. That feeling is at odds with a pang of disappointment at the same time, as well as the urge to raise a brow at Rin's words.]

You're always getting close to me.

[Haru can recall a time when Rin was the one to do this to him-- if it wasn't old history under less pleasant circumstances, Haru would be quick to remind Rin of that. It was that moment that he could understand Rin's feelings, at that time... But all of that does ignore that fact that Rin is going to be late if Haru keeps this up.]

The morning train. What about that?

[he asks, moving neither his arms nor his face away from Rin.]

[ How?? From her mouth? While the chocolate melts slowly in her mouth, she slowly licks her finger clean of the traces left there. ]

[Hey he's usually not that bad at scouting! He shouldn't be so easy to sneak on... But she is a pro. And even though she saw right through him, he is stubborn.]

It's nothing worth resting over.

[OKAY also I forgot to ask this earlier, but do you want to assume the geisha scene happened or not?]

[His eyes flicked down to see the bags under her eyes. Which would end up making it seems like he's staring at her eyes, at this angle. At this rate, Yui would run herself ragged and make herself too exhausted to work properly.]

You have been working hard. However... I believe you're pushing yourself too much.

[I'D LIKE THAT. But only if it's okay with you.]

[This sounds good to me!]

Ryuuko needed something to clear her mind. She didn't have a very good day today and she needed something to take her mind off it. She didn't want to bother Mako while she was out on her date, she didn't want to bother anyone else either, so she decided to do something she hasn't done in a while climb up somewhere high and look at the sites. Old City had some of the best places to climb and the view was amazing.

Ryuuko set out for Old City and stopped at the ruins of an abandoned stadium. She started to climb the building and felt her frustrations go away, until she saw the person sitting against the broken off section on concrete. No, it couldn't be. Ryuuko stomped over and stood next to him.

"Tetsuo!? Tetsuo is that you!"

Tetsuo was looking in totally the other direction as she stomped on over to him, and looked up--and stared.

"E-.. eeh..?! Ryukun?!"

After all, one of the most memorable things about her was that kinda rough, tomboyish streak. He grinned and laughed a bit, scratching his head.

"Haha, wow, th'hell're you doin' up here?"

Ryuuko couldn't believe her eyes. It was Tetsuo. She thought she wouldn't see him again after he disappeared so quickly, but there he was in front of her with that grin and laugh she still remembered.

She grinned. "I could ask you the same thing. I needed to clear my head, I didn't have such a good day today. How about you? Why are you up here? And another question where the hell have you been!?"

It had been a few years since they'd been classmates and friends; Tetsuo had mostly grown a bit rougher around the edges, still a bit on the short and wiry side, his hair messier than ever, his clothes obviously rather beat up and well-worn. The wild, uncompromising grin was definitely familiar, though.

"Eeh..? Oh, uhh... well, yanno, didn't want nothin' more ta do withat school shit, so I went an' joined th'gang Hideo-kun was in, been there since. ...I mean, ain't really nobody left, now, but I keep asshole gangs off our turf."

Obviously he was avoiding something about why he left, but since the only evidence back then--what had it been, six years?--had been him suddenly becoming sullen, uncommunicative, and totally uninterested in school overnight, that was anyone's guess.

"Sorry y'ain't havin'a good day, tho. There somebody needs an asskickin'?"

[He frowns at that and snapped back.]

So, what, you're exacting some sort of weird revenge on me!?

[Typical defensive tactic from Rin. When backed into a wall--literally or figuratively--bare your teeth and growl and hope for the best. By now though, he should know better than to expect Haru to back down, especially considering the two of them were destined rivals from the start. Still, there would be no harm in trying and try he would... at least that was the plan before Haru decided to interrupt with that suggestion.

Though in this context it sounds like more of an order of some sort.]

Haah?

[Soon enough, Rin's leaning forward as well, breaking even more distance between them so he can try and peer directly into Haru's soul. Did he slip and hit his head?]
